The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

March 17, 2010

This entry should probably start with it was a dark and stormy night…after all the name of our book for the February read was “The Graveyard Book” by Neil Gaiman.  This book won the Newbery award last year. The book is set in a cementary/ graveyard. The general feelings among those present were that this is a very good book , how much they liked it and it was a enjoyable read. Among the characters they really liked was Silas, who is not always great and you were left with lots of questions.  Another character talked about was the Ugly Lady who evolved and the reader is able to see the beauty from the inside.

We also discussed the fact that the way the book is written encourages and motivates student discovery.  As strange as this may seem the group felt that this was a “light” read  except for the beginning.  It was even said that this book would appeal to Harry Potter fans.  Kids and some adults would enjoy the ability to “fade” into the woodwork.

So post your thoughts and observations on “The Graveyard Book”. This group reccomends it for all.
